  • Does your rat do this?

    Hi,

I was just wondering if anyones rat like to chew on pencils or the pencil erasers. My rat does. plus all of my other rats liked to also. I will normaly stop them but thats why I was asking because I dont know if its bad but i am asuming it is?

    Thanks

None of mine liked Pencils. And yeah, it is harmful if they eat the lead resulting in lead poisoning.

Unfortunately the texture of erasers, as well as how soft they are, are very tempting to rats. I've had entire erasers destroyed by my rats and I don't buy cheap erasers because I used them for art. Never had anything come to harm my rats but I did begin hiding my erasers after a while. IMO, better safe than sorry. If you're at all worried about it, than don't allow it.

No lead in pencils...graphite. But I have no idea if graphite will hurt the rat.

Really? I always thought they had lead in them...

Hmm...either way, Graphite is probably not ideal either.

My rats ate pencils without issue but I didn't like them doing it cause of the splinters.
